Daily Oral Language & Spelling

Each week students will receive a handout called Daily Oral Language (DOL) and will work collectively to correct sentences  practicing rules of usage and punctuation. Generally two sentences are done each day and corrections are recorded on an overhead for all students to copy. On block two sentences will be randomly selected, and students will be required to rewrite these perfectly for credit. Each sentence is worth five points; five points are also awarded for completing the worksheet during the week. Because students have been provided with the corrections, any mistake found in the rewritten sentences will result in a loss of all five points for each sentence. The DOL portion of the work will total 15 points.

Students will also receive a handout with a list of commonly misspelled words. Each week for twenty weeks, students need to prepare eight words for spelling. Five words, worth one point a piece, will be selected and the results will be added to the DOL score.
