Drama

For many students, the study of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is the highlight of the year. We spend approximately eight weeks on this particular unit. This piece of literature is rich with the use of literary elements studied in English classrooms across the U.S.

One of the ways that I approach teaching Shakespeare is with the use of theatrics. This gets students out of their seat and actively involved with the text. After all, Shakespeare's work was meant to be performed. Once students get over the initial fear of acting in front of their peers, they become highly engaged in the process and the story itself.
