What is File Management?File management is a key part of successful desktop publishing. Just as with anything in life, one can't complete a task unless he or she knows where the materials are to do it. This is especially true in the classroom setting. Everyone is contributing to the end product, but unless one can locate all the files used to put the newspaper or yearbook together, the finished publication will never make it into the hands of the public. For more details, check out the PowerPoint located in the File Management link on this page. Let's avoid the chaos and instead look forward to smooth sailing and happy journalists! PhotographyPhotographs are the key to any successful publication, especially the yearbook. While writing should never take a back seat, photos draw prospective buyers. When yearbooks arrive, the first thing students do is page through the book and look at the pictures. Later, they will take the time to read the stories. For this reason, students who purchase the yearbook deserve to have quality pictures in their book. For guidelines to good digital photos, follow the Photography link under Getting Started. AP StyleThe Associated Press has established a set of rules to which all journalists conform. Following these rules insures consistent form within the text of the newspaper. Because we strive to emulate journalistic writers, VHS publications follow AP Style. Because the AP style book is hundreds of pages in length and has many more rules than we will use on a daily basis, you will refer to the VHS Stylebook, a condensed guide, and follow these rules. For situations not found in our style sheet, refer to Associated Press Stylebook 39th edition. |
